Scarface Clawdia: League me alone

One aspect of joining a DIY league like Richter City means a fair amount of commitment - and I'm not talking just training. When the first season of bouts was happening, us freshies were asked to pitch in and help get things running smoothly on the nights. I jumped in on the merch girl bandwagon - selling shirts, trucker caps, posters, badges and some sweet patches. Cheesy, but it was nice to feel involved and like I could do something. It's something I jumped in on again when we were at Blood and Thunder camp - and it was a great way to get our league out there to the diverse crowd of derby girls and punters alike.
Part of joining the league involves being active as a member on at least one committee - strangely enough, I'm in PR. I like words. Or, at least, I like trying to string them together occasionally - I'm better at doing it on screen than in person. There are a host of other committees who pull together to get this machine really going - my excuse for not joining more is a feeble (and perhaps futile) attempt to keep grasping onto the other parts of my life: back at uni as a student and actually trying to LEARN this time around; trying to sustain a relationship (they don't call them derby widows for nothing...); holding onto some friendships; getting some part time work to afford the above...
I mean, not to make it sound like it takes over your life. Two league trainings a week, plus the free skate on Tuesdays....I'd like to make it out for Saturday disco skates in the Hutt, too...but something's gotta give... Okay, maybe derby takes over a little. But, um, in a good way? Although, my flatmate and the boy don't seem to appreciate the magazines and constant derby talk as much as I'd like...
I guess I'm still trying to find my feet in the league, and trying to find that magical life balance that apparently is attainable. I've never been good at balance (despite the Pilates). I see spare time as something I should be filling with MORE AWESOME ACTIVITIES and all the ways I could be having it all. Damn girl power, look where you've got me! I WANT TO DO EVERYTHING. And I want to do it well.
